Aromatherapy - Behind the scenes

More than just a nice smell...

Aromatherapy has a rich history dating back thousands of years and has been used by various cultures worldwide for its potential therapeutic effects. It is commonly employed to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, promote relaxation, enhance mood, improve sleep, and alleviate discomfort and pain. In addition, some essential oils have natural antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties that offer additional health benefits. These oils can be specifically selected to create a bespoke treatment plan tailored to an individual's unique needs and preferences within any of my treatments.

Essential oils are highly concentrated oils that are extracted from plants through distillation or other methods. Chemical compounds are also present in essential oils, which are responsible for their fragrance and medicinal properties. These chemical compounds include terpenes, alcohols, esters, ketones, and phenols. Each of these compounds has a unique effect on the body and can be used for different purposes in aromatherapy.

For example, oils containing high levels of terpenes are known for their anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Other oils contain high levels of esters, which have a calming and relaxing effect on the body.

Overall, the chemical composition of essential oils plays a crucial role in their therapeutic properties and the benefits they provide in aromatherapy and, together, we use this information to tailor your treatment.
